In this session, participants will experience the Adaptability and Innovation Readiness (A.I.R.) Assessment developed and used at SRI to understand an organization's capabilities to navigate rapid and disruptive change and lead through innovation. During the session, participants will get a teaser of the assessment and will self-assess and compare their A.I.R. capabilities across the 5 categories of Vision, Mindset & Culture, Ideation & Creation, Infrastructure, and Transformation. This session is ideal for executives looking to enhance their innovation systems or who are struggling with topics like Intrapreneurship, Future Vision, Change Management, and how to work with External Ecosystems.
In this session, participants will understand the value of the intrapreneur and empathize with how the most successful ones navigate internal innovation. Chris Cowart will share 5 progressive roles (or super powers) of the intrapreneur and their best practices. Corporate leaders today face unprecedented challenges — particularly large companies, which have to worry about startups that can challenge their established businesses. One of the biggest challenges for many companies is identifying and supporting the innovation change-makers — the intrapreneurs. Intrapreneurs are employees who are tasked with creating new and innovative products within an established business, or, in simpler terms, an in-house entrepreneur.
The role of the intrapreneur is nuanced and complex. Not only does it require vision, but also the skills needed to bring a big vision forward within an organization. These superpowers, such as creativity, leadership, and empathy, can be learned and cultivated if an organization is willing to give potential intrapreneurs freedom and training. By embracing these superpowers with employees, an organization can move forward and create lasting and disruptive change.
This session is perfect for the executive or leader seeking to build or amplify the efforts of an in-house new business creation team.
In the session, participants will explore the dynamic relationship between emerging technologies and interdependent geopolitical forces. During the session, participants will hear a selection of highlighted Forces of Change, which will help shape our business environments over the next 5 to 10 years. They will also get a sample of key accelerating technologies from the applied research community at SRI.
What is a "force of change?" Chris Cowart uses this term to describe potential opportunity areas when a technology accelerant collides with a business sector or domain. They are robust areas in which attention is and should be applied to unearth significant opportunities for innovation. He will provide a framework and capabilities to identify forces of change in order to continue to innovate and adapt. In this session, Chris will highlight a set of forces of change that are challenging the world in 2024 and examples of innovations that have embraced adaptation to create impactful solutions.
As leaders of businesses, we are required to develop strategy and an execution plan. However, it is increasingly necessary for us to add the capability of future forecasting in order to develop an adaptive and resilient organization in the face of massive change. In 2023, Chris forecasted that the 3 megatrends of the decade would be – the climate era, the age of AI, and an unsteady phase of geopolitics. The first half of 2024 confirms and amplifies how critical these areas will continue to be for global leaders. Unfortunately, the complexity and interconnectedness of these areas make them radically more unpredictable, difficult to navigate, and subject to surprising changes. During this time of increasing uncertainty and volatility, organizations are forced to prioritize their stability by playing to their strengths. They also need to build the capabilities to recognize relevant trends, threats, and opportunities, run low-risk experiments, and adapt quickly.
During the interactive part of these sessions, participants will be guided on a number of future forecasting techniques and exercises in order to help identify and articulate the most influential variables, forces, and implications that will chart the future. Participants will work together to develop a point of view on these forces and share those insights across the group. The interactive sessions will close with a summary of forces and an action plan to explore and experiment with these new opportunity areas.
In this 45 minute session, participants will go on a journey of some of the most impactful technological advances of the past 80 years at SRI, many of which we use hundreds of times daily.
The History of SRI and emerging breakthroughs: Almost 80 years ago, Stanford Research Institute was created by the US federal government to shape the future of deep technology through applied research. Now, SRI, an independent mission-driven institute, creates and delivers world-changing solutions for a safer, healthier, and more sustainable future. Chris Cowart will share an engaging background on SRI along with key moments in technology development over the past 50 years. He will provide insights on the organization and process which reinforces the continuous invention of the technology and spin out of influential startup ventures. He will also share a recent top 10 list of emerging applied research projects at SRI, which might represent the next decade of inventions.
This session is perfect for the curious participant or executive team seeking to understand the underpinnings of Silicon Valley successful technological innovations. As leaders, we endeavor to learn from the past in order to shape our near future and cultivate an optimistic and repeatable innovation culture. Participants will get inspired as they understand the connections between technology research, like robotics and artificial intelligence, with massive commercial breakthroughs like Intuitive Surgical and Siri.
