Expert Bio

Alex Dantas is a Brazilian-born entrepreneur, engineer, and innovator whose unconventional path — from mechanical engineering technical school and law school to classical ballet and the U.S. Army — shaped a uniquely multidisciplinary perspective that now defines his work at the forefront of hardware and robotics. As a U.S. Army watercraft engineer, Alex served on missions in Japan and the Dominican Republic and completed multiple training missions alongside the Navy SEALs, while also developing a security application that was installed on 3% of all Android phones in Brazil. In 2017, driven by a mission to unite electronic and robotic engineers under one roof, Alex founded Circuit Launch — a 31,000-square-foot coworking and co-facturing facility in Oakland, California, that has grown into one of the largest hardware and robotics startup ecosystems in the United States. Circuit Launch is home to 80 hardware and robotics startups that have collectively raised over $100 million in the past 36 months, making it a cornerstone of the San Francisco Bay Area's innovation landscape. Building on that legacy, Alex co-founded mechlabs.ai, a groundbreaking project-based mechatronic engineering program that is lecture-free, textbook-free, and instructor-free — a "build-it-to-learn-it" model designed to cultivate the next generation of real-world robotics and mechatronics engineers.
