Expert Bio

Eleanor "Nell" Watson is a philosopher, engineer, and author working at the intersection of machine vision, artificial intelligence, and AI ethics. A trailblazer in emerging technologies, Nell dedicates her work to protecting human rights and infusing ethics, safety, and human-centered values into AI systems. She serves as Chair and Vice-Chair of the IEEE's ECPAIS Transparency Experts Focus Group and the P7001 Transparency of Autonomous Systems committee, where she engineers mechanisms to safeguard algorithmic trust and accountability. Nell holds the position of Executive Consultant on philosophical matters for Apple and serves as President of EURAIO, the European Responsible Artificial Intelligence Office. She is a Senior Scientific Advisor to The Future Society, a Senior Fellow at The Atlantic Council, and holds fellowships with the British Computing Society and the Royal Statistical Society. As AI and Ethics Faculty at Singularity University in Silicon Valley, Nell is also a sought-after keynote speaker who has addressed global institutions including the World Bank, the United Nations General Assembly, and The Royal Society. Her book Taming the Machine further cements her reputation as one of the foremost voices in responsible AI development and AI governance.
